Pickup Covers

Hi everyone,

I've got a 1988 LP Custom (with 3 humbuckers) which I love to death but it's in need of a pickup change. When I change them, I do want to cover the new pickups which leads to my question. If it possible to reuse the original covers? I don't know anything really about the process of covering or uncovering pickups so sorry if this seems like a silly question : p

Any and all answers will be appreciated.

Re: Pickup Covers

Should be able to, as long as the replacement pickups are the same dimensions as the ones in the covers now.

Re: Pickup Covers

The only way you can use the original covers is to stay with Gibson replacement pickups.
The pole spacing doesn't line up with Duncans, so you can either buy new covered Duncans, or buy black Gibsons. I'd recommend the Burstbucker 2/1/1 set or 57 Classic B/N/N.

I changed the 57 Classics in my 3 pup Black Beauty to gold Brobucker Bridge/57 Classic/Brobucker neck.

Re: Pickup Covers

For the hassle of removing the old covers and refitting properly so they don't squeal (assuming they'd even fit which Gearjoneser has shot down)...I'd just sell the old ones and buy replacements.

Re: Pickup Covers

If you are going with Duncans, I'm sure they could do a set of whatever you want with appropriately AGED, gold covers. They do this with the gold covered Antiquitys, and they look perfect on instruments with some mileage on them.

Re: Pickup Covers

Hello again,

Thank you guys for the responses! Think I'd rather just swap them for covered Duncans. I'm not a huge fan of Gibson pickups, though they are still solid pickups.

Re: Pickup Covers

If you were going to recover them it would prob. be best just to buy new ones, this way you know they will fit & they'll look new when you are done?
