Pickup Decal

Hi all, building my first guitar and selected the Sh1 Vintage '59 pickups in black. The thing about these is they seem to be the only Seymour Duncans that dont say "Seymour Duncan" on the front.

Does ayone know where I could get a pickup decal made? "Seymour Duncan" in white for transfer or on a clear background to put on the pickups?

Youd have to get that made at a print shop because the logos were printed on the bobbins at the factory.

The factory can put one on. I can't imagine it would be very expensive. Contact them on their home page and ask for a quote.The logo is actually stamped on.

Any print shop Ive contacted can't do something that small. We're talking what? 45mm x 3mm or so?

Thanks I had already contacted the factory before posting here. I was offered to buy a Custom made SH1 pickup with the logo printed on... Not really wanting to sell the ones I bought and order custom jobs.

Could be, its the size I'm struggling with. Getting a 12" x 4" decal for the car window is no bother. 45mm x 3mm for a pickup is proving much more of a challenge.

Yea I see your predicament and it makes no sense to buy new pickups just because they have a logo, so Im with you on finding an alternative approach to this.

I also agree that the logo does add a touch of something to certain guitars. I dont like the logo on all guitars, but some of them look better with them on.
Even though while youre playing you cant see them, let alone the person in the front row, but when its sitting still it sure looks sweet!

Id keep looking around because I know its possible to have decals with laser cut letters in a size and font that small because I've seen it before on other things.

I believe so, only way to print logo is in the building (California)(I'm in Northern Ireland :wave

unfortunately we don't have any way to print a logo except for in this building, you can always special order the sh-1 model with a logo as a shop floor custom order, this kind of cosmetic change to an existing product model can actually be done at a more affordable price point through any authorized SD dealer. Rather than going through the custom shop, the pickup is made especially for you on our production line at a slight upcharge from the production level model. What you would do is email, call or visit either your local dealer or preferred dealer and ask for a Shop Floor Custom Order. They would be able to tweak an existing model by special ordering a pickup with different cosmetic options such as custom colored bobbins or covers, custom colored pole pieces, removal/addition of Seymour Duncan logo, or additional options such as short/long leg baseplate, or different lead wiring options.

Yeah, I could imagine the factory not being too happy about getting logos made from waterslide decal or something else...too easy for unscrupulous ebay dealers to fake pickups. To be fair, Arwin didn't say they couldn't put the logo on your exact pickups you own now. It might just take a few weeks to get your pickups back from where you live.

Duncan logos are pad printed. It's a silicon pad that picks up the ink from a metal plate and transfers the ink to the bobbin plastic. It's an industry standard for printing on plastic and is more permanent than anything else.

But logos (or not) are a shop floor custom, so why not just buy the 59s with logo?

If that's the case, just put the pickup in the stamp machine and stamp the logo on the current bottom coil.

I'm not sure the cost of airmailing two pickups (return) from Northern Ireland to California + the cost of the custom shop printing its logo on my '59s would be justifiable chaps...

Find a guy who knows a guy who knows a guy who can paint really small and really well.

Or get some white rub-on transfer decal letters from an arts and crafts shop, or automotive parts shop, or electronics supply shop. The font might be wrong, but you might find something you like better.

Of course, if you play in a punk band, get a Seymour Duncan sticker on the body with an arrow pointing at the pickup.

Great idea. I managed to get some 2.5mm rub ons which I think Ill give a go to. Failing that:-

Just put nickel-plated covers on and call it a day

There should be Nickle covers laying around somewhere :laugh:
