Pickup Differences Between a Les Paul and a 335

Re: Pickup Differences Between a Les Paul and a 335

I can see it used more often on neck single coils, but for me I'm trying to get all the treble and clarity I can from a neck HB.

Good thing we don't all play the same way. It'd be a very boring world if that were the case.

Not to derail, but I tend to only use the tone control when I have just put on a new set of strings.
Though spin-a-split does sound like an interesting mod.

A pair of 59's is never a bad choice for 335 style. As for the Seths - people seem to love those a lot too. I'd make that call based on the natural tone of the guitar. A pair of Pearly Gates for a slightly different PAF would never be a bad call either. Little more mids, slightly less bass, sweeter top end.

Consider 59's and a mag swap: A3 neck and UOA5 in bridge. Very very tasty classic tones!

I have a Dot Studio with a JB and a Jazz. I play it LOUD!!!!! On that guitar I turn the heck out of the neck volume and tone knobs.

I also have a Dot Studio w/ P-Rails for every sound under the sun. I also use the volume and tone a LOT on both bridge and neck with that. Since you went push-push x 4, might think about P-Rails depending on what sounds you want.

Add an A3/A2 mag combo to a '59 set and you'll have one of the closest p'up sets to an actual '59 PAF set found on the best-sounding '59 Bursts out there. Greenie comes to mind, tone-wise. YMMV.

For the record, an A3/A2-modded, nickel covered, '59 set is the p'up set that I currently use as my main instrument, an ES-339, used for a Smooth Jazz project group.
