Pickup for DARK guitar.

Re: Pickup for DARK guitar.

This pickup comes stock in ALL MAPLE guitars, which are notoriously bright. I owned 3 Lynch's (M1, Kami 4, and Kami 2) and can confirm this; the Demon is actually very neutral to dark sounding. It would never brighten up a dark guitar.

Maple =/= Bright. Maple is extremely middy, giving it the false perception of having a lot of treble. Bright pickups work exceptionally well in maple. Also, Lynch's are Soft Maple, which have a warmer tone than maple anyway.

TS, try a Bare Knuckle VHII. It's very asymmetrically wound, making it brighter and more open (much like the hybrid).

Ok..metric bridge vs. gotoh ? Can you school me on that ?

Well, everything looks fine on the electronics and I may need to test the old pot with a multimeter to see if things were screwed up.

That's was a good move. Pots are the culprit in 90%, if a guitar is too dark. If you look for 1meg audio pots look at torres engineering.

EMG 81 is dark? Really?

I have a 7 string mahogany body guitar with EMGs 81 and 60, bridge and neck. The 81 is very bright. I also have an EMG VMC tone control. When I use it to boost treble, 81 is so, so not dark! I actually use the VMC to boost mids. Anyway, you can try using the VMC to boost treble, or cut mid/bass. If it sounds dark after that, than I cannot see how to solve the "problem", maybe splited HBs, or parallel wiring with a real bright PUP...
