Pickup Grounding Issue?

I installed what I thought was a Seymour Duncan EVH pickup in the bridge position and wired it directly to the volume pot. It's the type with only two wires, a hot wire wrapped in a wire mess ground wire. I haven't been able to find any diagram to match what I'm trying to do. So I winged it. Unfortunately a constant loud humming sound is being generated at any volume. Is this a grounding issue or something else? Tia Cowboydog .

And what were you trying to do? A clear picture of the wiring usually helps too!

The mesh sheath is your ground wire and should be soldered to the back of a grounded pot casing.

The inner wire is your hot.

Definitely sounds like a ground issue, but sounds like it's not related to the pickup connection, since it happens at any volume. Either the bridge (for the strings, not the pickup) ground is not hooked up, or even the ground connection to the jack is not completely hooked up. Either bad solder joint (if the wire is there), or missing a wire that should be connected.

Maybe you mixed up the ground and hot on the switch?
