Pickup Height on Flying V

I just bought a SD JB pickup to put in the bridge position of a Flying V and it doesn't seem to be tall enough to fit. Since Gibson bridges sit high above the bridge pickup and angle down towards the fretboard, I need a pickup that can be set really high to get it close to the strings. The mounting bracket under all SD pickups is a lot shorter than stock Gibson pickups and when I raise the JB pickup to it's maxium height allowed, it still sits way short of where it needs to be. So my question is, how do I install a SD pickup to sit higher than the standard bracket/spring/screw setup?

Thanks!

Re: Pickup Height on Flying V

I've never had any problems getting mine high enough on Gibsons, my Heritage, or PRS.

If the spring is completely compressed take the pup out and either (A) Use a smaller spring (B) Cut your spring down a little bit and make a new bottom ring.

If you are still in your SD pup trial period you could take it back and order a Floor Shop Custom with long legs like vintage Gibson pups, 59s, Seths, and Antiquities.

Ah yes, cut the springs in half. Damn I feel dumb.

Thanks!

No need to feel dumb. Usually the best answers are right there in front of us.
