Pickup Height

Every guitar is different, but about where are most of you setting bridge humbuckers on Strat type guitars. I have be using about 5/64, but I guess I'm gonna have to just sit and adjust it while playing for the best tone I am looking for. But for fun, I wanted to see if there was a magic spot anyone has found for the Pearly Gates(A2)?

Re: Pickup Height

I always go with the stock Gibson setup to begin with, which I believe is 1/16 and 3/16 or some such amount. I look it up every time I set up. But that's for a standard output PAF...

The bottom line is:
Too close = Hotter signal, but kills sustain and tone
Too far = Weak signal and also kills sustain and tone

The key, IMO, is atrt with the stock recs, then adjust to the sweet spot (which may be lower for a smokin' hot pup!). You'll know it when you hear it, hopefully.

#1 stock height
#2 Arc the poles
#3 general sdjustment
#4 tweek a particulalr pole if necessary

I hate "as close to the strings as possible". Horrible sound/tone killer.

I also adjust with a clean tone to hear all the nuances.

Re: Pickup Height

i set the bridge just far enough that the sustain is as good as i can seem to get it, then set the neck pickup to match output.

Re: Pickup Height

I've found that setting my pickups at 4/32 (bass) and 3/32 (treble) sounds best for my guitars and how I play. Give a nice balanced feel to the pickups.
