Hi! How to adjust height of pickups? Recently i've heard that u should't place it to high becouse u sacrafice your sustain when pup is too close... On the other hand, the closer pickup is, the better sound we hear;) How to find the neutral area? Or maybe anyone knows correct height of pickups ( i use both, rails and singles)??

Re: Pickup height...

in general you can start by setting the bridge pup at about 1/8" from the strings, then move it up and down to see where the sweet spot is. once you get the bridge pup set where you like it, set the other pups to balance well

Re: Pickup height...

Jeremy's right. With the strings held down at the highest fret the polepieces of the pickups on my guitars are about 1/8" away from the underside of the bass strings and a little closer (as close as a 1/16" away) on the treble side. Humbuckers can be closer to the strings than single coils and do not pull the strings out of tune if they are to close the way single coils coils do. Play up above the 12th fret on your wound low E and see if the strings starts making funny "out of tune" double tones...if it does, the neck pickup is probably to close to the string. Just move it 1/16" further away and try again. If you get it all messed up somehow just go back to the beginning and start again: 1/8" away on the bass strings and a little closer (as close as 1/16" away) on the treble.Lew

Re: Pickup height...

I heard a guitar tech say 2 nickels thickness on the bass side and 1 nickel on the treble side.. Sounds awful close to me.
