Pickup Height

I had someone install a Dimebucker on my guitar because i was lazy. he put the pick in at an angle. the back of the pickup facing the bridge is very close to the strings and the front is angled down away from the strings. i have never seen a pickup like this before. is there any reason for this i am not thrilled with the sound of the pickup could this be part of the problem. it sound a bit thin sounding to me. i have a JB in a differnet guitar and like it better then the Dimebucker.

Re: Pickup Height

Most people aren't thrilled with the sound of the Dimebucker, no matter what they do to it.

Just mess with the height of the pickup. Try different stuff with it. If you've tried everything and still don't like it, it's the pickup, not the height and/or angle of the pickup.

Re: Pickup Height

If you set the dimebucker really close to the stings it sounds a bit better. Smoother is the closest word I can find to describe it.

Re: Pickup Height

what effect does the angle of the pickup make on the sound

Angling it where the pickup is close to the bigger strings and further away from the smaller ones will give you more low end and less high end, and vise versa. Experimenting with an angle on the pickup will result in better tonal balance, if you find an angle where you like it. Most of the guys here who've tried it really didn't like the Dimebucker. Hopefully, you can experiment a little bit with it and make it work, though. Good luck.

Re: Pickup Height

The height from the low string and the high string are the same. the angle is front to back. the bridge side is high close to the strings and the other side is farther away from the strings. what effect will that have.

You mean the pickup is leaning, then. I can't help you there, since I've never had this problem. Hopefully someone else could tell you how to fix that.
