Pickup help for a jackson rr

Alright here is the question. Ive got a Rx10d rhoads guitar, alder body, bolt on maple neck rosewood board and replaced the stock lic. floyd with a gotoh floyd. Now this thing plays like a dream but the sound is way to thin when compared to my emg loaded les paul. Now id liked to stick to the passive route so whats a pup that could make my rhoads sound as thick as my les paul does with its 85 in the bridge?

Re: Pickup help for a jackson rr

If you're looking for thick and want to stay with Duncan, maybe an Invader would work well for you. Some DiMarzio's that might work well: Breed, Tone Zone.

Re: Pickup help for a jackson rr

Yeah i was thinking the invader or possibly the distortion (trembucker of course) but i wanted some opionions of what other people put into guitars of similar construction. mainly looking for something to match the output of the lower mid crunch of the 85 in the bridge of my les paul

Re: Pickup help for a jackson rr

Not to burst your bubble...but you will never get a bolt on alder bodied guitar to sound like a Les Paul....nothing sounds like a Les Paul. I've been that route spending tens of thousands of dollars :laugh2: If you want Les Paul tone, you gotta buy something built exactly the same, in the same shape, with the same scale, neck angle, headstock angle, etc etc etc.

That said, I'd go with a Dimarzio SuperDistortion or Duncan Custom to make it more les-paul like/thicken it up.

Re: Pickup help for a jackson rr

Yeah i know it will never sound like my les paul and im not going for that just something that is around the same ballpark. I want two different sounding guitars but as of now I will play my paul and then switch to the rhoads the difference is immense even an untrained ear can easily notice the difference. The paul sounds really thick and in your face while the rhoads is thin and extrememly weak.

Re: Pickup help for a jackson rr

Both the SuperD and Custom will add alot of lows, low mids, and "regular" mids while retaining clear highs. Should fill out the tone on the double R very nicely :)

Is it the stock Duncan Designed pickup in the RX10D GNR?

If it is then it would be the HB103, which is a weaker version of the SH6 Distortion.

This pickup didn't sound too bad in a RX10D that I have. It is the best Duncan Designed pickup I have heard. I would say the HB103 is about 70% of the SH6. The SH6 is just more robust.

If you are looking to stay with Duncan the Custom Custom would shift the EQ a bit toward the mids and would have more output.

That thing is screamin' for an Invader, Megadrive or a Super 3. ;)

Re: Pickup help for a jackson rr

Patb-1 parallel axis.give it a shot!!!this one is teh best soulution for thin ,too bright sounding guitars with rich harmonics.

Re: Pickup help for a jackson rr

I currently have a Super3 in my soloist. Very thick, pretty dark, great harmonics, and tight... maybe a little too dark much for my taste. I prefer the originial Super Distortion to the Super3. I might swap it for something a bit brighter.
