Pickup Help!

Hey all,

New to the forum here, everyone seems really helpful so hopefully I can solve my problem!

I am considering getting a new Schecter C1 Custom

http://www.schecterguitars.com/products/guitar/C-1-Custom.aspx

This guitar comes with an SH-11 Custom Custom in the bridge and a '59 SH-1N in the neck.

I play almost exclusively pop punk (All time low, mayday parade, red jumpsuit apparatus, taking back sunday, that sort of thing) and a little harder stuff too (Breaking Benjamin, Saosin, etc...). I do not play any metal. However, I do like myself some good, crunchy, fat, distortion.

I currently have an Agile AL-2000 which came with ceramic pickups. I love the sound of the bridge pickup in that guitar. It gives a good crunchy, fat distortion. However, this guitar needs to go. It is getting old and beat up.

Anways, will replacing the alnico ii magnet in the custom custom with a ceramic magnet give me the sound I want? I feel like the alnico 2 will give me a spongie bass which is not really what I want I don't think. Im not playing slash style stuff at all. Like I said, pop punk.

If that is the solution, how do I go about replacing the magnet?

Thanks guys :)

Re: Pickup Help!

Dropping a ceramic mag in will effectively turn your pickup into a SH-5 Custom, the "PAF on Steroids" so it will certainly give your bridge tone a harder edge to it. There is a thread in here on making the '59/Custom Hybrid that gives all the info you'll need on swapping bits around...
