just need help identifying a tele bridge pickup. i think its a stl-3 quarter pound but the only clue i have are the oversized pole pieces. is this the only SD tele pup with large pole pieces or could there be any other candidates?
if it is an stl-3 what can i expect from it-pretty hot i imagine but does it retain any classic tele tone?

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

STL-3 is the only SD candidate. If it has three conductor cables, it is an STL-3t (for coil tapped). Hot - yes. Classic T tone, IMO, no.

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

Would you be able to provide us some photos? Is it mounted on a guitar? IF not or if you can take it out pictures of the base plate might also help us to identify it.

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

don't know about identification, but it's definitely not a classic tele tone. Way too hot and fat. Imo the QP falls somewhere in between a hot singlecoil and a really fat sound bucker

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

Yup, that's a Quarter Pound Tele. Definitely not a traditional twangy sound, but one of my favorite pickups, especially in tapped form.

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

thanks for the replies-
i love the sound of a p90-does this compare in any way?

Plenty of beefage. ;)

In my late teens, I owned a Japanese Telecaster copy to which I fitted an STL-3 and a Gibson Dirty Fingers HB. (Double cream bobbins. What would that be worth now?) The DF was set fairly low in the pickguard. Hence, the output of the two pickups was nicely matched. My only regret was that I declined the option to buy a coil-tapped QP.

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

FUNKFINGERS-yeah - i was thinking of pairing it with a bucker in the neck

i had a QP paired with a 59 in the neck and it was friggin amazing combo. The middle position was one of the sexiest tones id ever heard.

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

like it! just missed a 59 on ebay but that was my original choice. have to see what else is out there. any other suggestions for a pairing ?

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

yeah-i like what you have done there. they are both great looking teles, what is the neck pup in the one on the left? i suppose there is enough room on the control plate for a mini switch-something i hadn,t considered before but i am now.

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

That is the stock pickup set in a g&l asat classic tribute. (even I can't belive there are stock pickups in something I own) only mod is a 4 way switch.

You could also consider Triple Shot if you don't fancy drilling through your control plate

Re: pickup i d-quarter pounder??

I cannot believe that they charge $3.20 extra for having a hole drilled. Worse. I cannot believe that you agreed to pay the extra. :poed:
