I've been thinking about the statements that traditional 8K (or less) PAF type humbuckers don't necessarily split very well. So that got me thinking....how about this:
Start with a traditional PAF style pickup, around 8k, with four wires. Then independantly add about 2K's worth more windings around the screw coils and make it a 6 wire pickup.
With a two position switch this could give you a traditional 8k PAF style humbucker, that could split to a 6k single coil.
Or with the right three position switch, it could even go from a 10 K unbalanced humbucker to an 8K PAF style to a 6K single coil.
I would think that this has been tried before. I'm wondering whether this would be a good or bad idea.
