pickup ideas...

I recently purchased a Roasted alder strat body with roasted maple/rosewood neck.

Looking for HSS (strat sized buckers) or HH recommendations.

I have 2 strats with JB/Jazz comb. If I can't find anything that knocks my socks off I'll go back to this since that's what I've been playing for last 10yrs.
I have a Strat with a JB/Stk-s4/Stk-s7. This one I pretty much stay on the bridge unless I'm playing alone.

Since we play so many different genres, I'm looking for a versatile setup. Not necessarily the same sound.. maybe more modern? is there a modern JBish bridge?... and Not looking for the "strat sound".
Sidenote, I tried the WLH set... initially was ok, but just lacked the umph I was looking for.

If you don't mind looking outside of Duncan, the Suhr SSH+ and the Aldrich are both "modernized" JB's.

I guess within Duncan, there's the Thrash Factor and the Alex Skolnic sigs which are kinda that as well.

Alright that gives me a couple to start listening to. Thanks gents!

Let me add to the original search... I need chuggy for palm mutes/not overbearing while strumming/handles clean descently

The Distortion or the Distortion neck in the bridge would be great choices since you want a modern sounding JB that chugs and sounds good clean. That would fit all the bills. I also highly recommend putting alnico in it.

Give a single coil size humbucker in the neck a try since you don't have a set up with that. I recommend the Dmz Cruiser.

Ok so I decided to start with the Little 59, stk4 and a JB... then go from there.

Pairing this with a volume/2 tones and a 5way... is the wiring diagram here basically what I'm after?

Follow up.. I went that decision. Sounded good. Not exactly what I was looking for. So I pulled a jb/jazz loaded pick guard for another strat and rolled with it.
Now that our summer time shows are coming to an end, I'm back on the hunt for something... Man I'm not even sure what at this point... Just different enough.
Anybody tried the nazgul/sentient set in a strat? Maybe Dactivators?

Here we are about a year later... still looking for something.
I'm guessing the roasted body is that different?
I've tried a few different pickups from different places, but everything has a "thin" sound.

I'm thinking about giving this one a go next.

My recent to-go Superstrat has SD Distortion in the bridge. That one was just lying around. Its so good that the Alt8 and DiMarzio Dual Sound are still sitting in the box.

If thin is the problem, try a Custom. It’ll thicken your tone right up, and it’s super tweakable. Change the magnet, and you literally have a new pickup.

One other thought is the PATB-1. I feel like the parallel axis pickups don’t get nearly enough love around here. It would honestly probably be a better fit without having to worry about magnets than the Custom. I have one in the bridge of my Strat now.

Black Winter Rails might be a good idea. They can actually do lots of styles, not just what they are marketed as, and they look super modern.

How chunky is it?

I've yet to try the black winter anything... I was really worried they'd be a one trick pony. Are they super versatile?
