Pickup identification help needed!

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

You sure it's a Seymour Duncan, not Duncan Designed? I checked the sticker chart but the closest I'm seeing is MG, which is the StagMag.

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

Maybe was a custom wind for someone? A picture would help everyone though.

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

Does it have only rodmagnet pole pieces, flush with the bobbin?
Often are those stickers bad printed and parts of the capitals are invisible. So MG for the old 'Mag' pickup is very likely.

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

stag mags' mags protrude and are staggered.
might be a JB, and a letter's missing...
where'd it come from?

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

Since the writing says MGB its pre 2001. The Stag Mags predecessor was The Mag with flush polepieces.

This one:

* Mid-70's through early 80's

SH-1n, SH-1b - The '59
SH-2n, SH-2b - The Jazz (made for Jeff Beck)
SH-3 - The Mag (later modified into the SH-3 Stag Mag)
SH-4 - The JB Model (made for Jeff Beck)
SH-5 - Duncan Custom
SH-6 - Duncan Distortion (later SH-6b Duncan Distortion bridge)
SH-7 - Seymourizer II (later SH-6n Duncan Distortion neck)

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

UPDATE: I still don't know what model the pickup is but I installed it in one of my partsocasters with two Texas Specials and it sounds really good. I'm going to give it a try at the gig tonite. BTW Gibson type wiring with wire on outside, no coil tapping.

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

Could be an early 59 or Pearly Gates, could be a Custom Shop.

"M-B" could mean Michael Bolton, Martin Barre, or Manny Bofanny.

Milton Berle? Anyway, UPDATE 2: The pickup has a good hard rock sound. I think it's some kind of '59, it's not as aggressive as my Pearly Gates +. By the wear it appears to be an older pickup, and there is no "Seymour Duncan" logo on the top, just the stamped one on the backplate. I like it, I just wish I knew what it was!

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

got a multimeter? get a dc reading off it. might not tell us much cause its probably gonna be around 8k +/-0.5k but it cant hurt

Re: Pickup identification help needed!

You did not answer our questions, tell us about the polepieces !
Filister head screws or only stud. If only studs: staggered or flush with the bobbins!

Supply some pics and we tell you for sure!!

Looks like an old PAF, one set of screws and one set of flush polepieces.
