Pickup info needed

My band mate gave me these SDs from an old partscaster. I was curious as to the age of them. See the attached pics.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Pickup info needed

Quick guess. Late Seventies or early Eighties.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!! Darth got told :)

First is a late-'70s "JB" in double-cream. Great pickup!

Second is a 1980-1982 "Distortion". Very nice!

Re: Pickup info needed

These are not the pickups you are looking for... Move along.

Nice Star Wars reference too. Those are both solid pickups but especially the JB. JB's from that era sound different than current production JB's. I'll refrain from saying they sound better as everyone's perception is different. I have one from the same era, in the same color and I personally prefer it over more recent models. I've only briefly owned a DD, but it was too hot and compressed for my personal tastes. You may find you're tastes are different.

Also, both appear to be bridge models. The JB for sure since there is no neck JB model. Back when these pickups were made I don't know how many neck specific models SD made, but it wouldn't have been many... just a handful. The DD was perhaps one of those, but someone with more knowledge would have to chime in.

Yes, they are both bridge models. The Distortion "neck" was actually the SH-7 "Seymourizer", designed first as a bridge pickup, then rebranded as the SH-6n.

I did not realize there is no neck JB (maybe there should be...hint hint). Curious, because that's where it was removed from, neck slot in a vintage HH Strat partscaster.
I wonder how the JB would work in the neck position? or maybe I'll just swap the DD with someone for a '59.

I believe Steve Stevens was one that used the JB in the neck for a while. Check out the specs on his Washburn model. Can't remember, but he may have installed them with the slugs to the neck and the screws to the bridge.

Some people also like it wired for parallel in the neck.

Only you could be so bold.

Ha! Nice.
