Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

This may sound really stupid...but

Why in the heck has no-one come up with a heavy duty bobbin/coil "sticker". An overlay...with some seriously good glue/tape...in different colors?

I know in the Archery industry...for compund bows...CAMO is a big seller..there alot of diff types of camo and every guy has his pref...and tends to accessorize his bow with the camo he wears...many manufacturers will make a product, and then have some different camo "stickers" so that the accessory can match the bow's camo film dip

here's an exampleLINK
you'll notice at the bottom middle, the bow stabilizer has a sticker that would be very similar to what you'd need for a pickup bobbin. (going over the slugs/screws)

After all, you can ONLY see the top of the bobbin anyway. People could have their pick of double creme, zebra, Glow in the dark, hot pink $hit brown..mirrored..whatever....it's not like it's a high wear item anyway...

Or am I wayyy off base here?

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

Finally, I can have those Zebra Pickups I always wanted! Might just try with some crayons and some sticky-backed craft paper.....

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

I can't believe you guys just gave that away! First one to the patent office wins!

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

Alrighty.....reckon someone beat me to the punch :)

I don't know...I see it as a great marketing thing...it's much more cost effective than having to make/stock/buy diff color bobbins. You make black pups, and throw in some creme/white stickers with the pup so you have the biggest number of bases covered. Prolly save a $hitpile of dough as a manufacturer.

then offer the rest of the colored stickers aftermarket.

I'm gonna buy some of those and check 'em out...thanks for the link Kindred.

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

man those carbon fiber and chrome stickers are way cool, i might get some of those. Thx for the link

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

Only problem I see is the stickers pealing off. Otherwise, not a bad idea. I wonder if they can make glow-in-the-dark bobbin stickers...;)

I don´t see why it wouldn´t be possible, there are numerous self-stick GID films available commercially ;)

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

For each Zebra pickups Duncan sells, they could include a set of cream peel off/stick on coil paper... :32:

I know at one point they were actually working on something like this (or so I was told at some folks at SD). I'm not sure what ever happened with it though.

I bought some of those... they wear off very quickly, you have to be very very nice to them...

Even tho this already exists, I see a point in making some that STAY there...

+1 as well as not leaving the adhesive backing on the bobbins if you wanted to change them periodically. A better adhesive seems to be all that's needed.

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

There was this guy on another forum posted pics of his guitar with silver foil wrapped round his pickups to 'make it look cool' and asking for opinions on it.
Hmm, sometimes best just not to ask......

:laugh2: Yup I can assure you that word gets thrown around quite inappropriately on the various archery related forums....

On target bows especially..often an archer will weight down the front and rear of the bow for optimum balance/stability. Both sides of the bow will have a threaded insert for screwing the stabilizer in...

I always got some great laughs when someone would post a pic of their new bow and I'd throw out "You sure could use a doinker in the back hole there" :D

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

Eh I do some archery too, but au naturel. I don't need no compound bows and stabilizers :D

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

why not make some that are like magnets? that way they would be easy to peel off.

Re: Pickup Marketing Idea for Evan/Duncan

On the other hand, double-cremes, with black stickers, that didn't . . . ahem . . . stick very well, might be very lucrative. ;)
