Pickup Output Voltage

Re: Pickup Output Voltage

Madmax is right. Just hook up a voltmeter and play away.

Just remember, mV ratings are almost worthless because to compare them you'd have to excite the strings exactly the same way, creating the same changes in the magnetic field. Otherwise, you're comparing picking style, picking strenght, etc., not just output.

Re: Pickup Output Voltage

In addition to mv of output being useless, most of the time DC resistance means next to nothing also. BTW, I have no clue how to measure mv of output on a pickup. I know Artie on here has done so, maybe he will chime in.

Re: Pickup Output Voltage

yup, just a volt meter ... and DC volts are even more useless given that we guitarists make AC signals ... kinda like measuring the DC resistance ... which tells us one and only one thing .. how much resistance is present when the pickup is silent :smack:

use your ears, not a meter
