Pickup quandary

I just came across a CS 69 RWRP middle pup that I'm going to wire into a 97 Am Std Strat with CS69s in a white pearloid pickguard to achieve a little more quiet in position 2 and 4. The quandary is that what to do with the correct wound pup? A new pick guard and I could convert it to a four pup guitar but how? Suggestions and wiring schematics wanted. Thanks.

I'm going to assume that by the "correct wound pup," you mean the one that's currrently in the guitar. If you don't have a use for it, sell it here. I'm sure there are plenty of people that'd buy it.

What exactly do you mean by four pickup guitar? If you mean a humbucker in the bridge, that's a completely different type of pickup from a single coil. You'd need to buy one separately.

Re: Pickup quandary

If your guitar had a swimming pool rout, AND if you could find a pickguard for it, you'd be able to have 4 singles. Kinda like the EBMM Steve Morse only with all singles.

Re: Pickup quandary

There's enough room to put pups next to each other in the bridge position.

what're ya askin' us for if you've already got your mind made up?;)

i say get an HSS guard, mod it to fit both singles in the bridge spot, and hook them up in parallel. it won't ever be a proper humbucker though, since it's got the same wind direction and polarity. you could wire it reverse and have an OOP humbucker, but i can't see that being a very useful tonal option since bridge singles are already pretty thin, with OOP just making it weaker and thinner.

Re: Pickup quandary

Here's my current thinking on my wiring quandary…place the RWRP pup next to the bridge pup in an SSH configuration and wire the extra pup to an on-off switch this way I can have noise canceling in all five positions or single coil…but still need help figuring out the wiring!

Re: Pickup quandary

that sounds like something i could think of, and somebody not as lazy as i could make a diagram of!

i say wire up your SSS portion up normaly with the 5=way switch with master volume and a stacked tone control similar to a j-bass' pickup mix pot. on the way to the output jack, wire in a switch to add the other pickup in parallel which will be wired to it's own volume and the other portion of the stacked tone control. you could probably wire up the switch to be a push pull on one of the volumes.

edit:
btw it's not like you necessarily will need volume control over that extra single, rather it would be beneficial to have it in line for attenuating the highs.
