Pickup recommendation...

So, I've been wanting to make a complete hard rock monster out of an Epiphone Les Paul Tribute Plus. Part of that is switching the pickups, what I have thought up this far is a Screamin' Demon in the bridge and a PGn in the neck. The amplifier I am using is a peavey 6534+ with a home-made 4x12 loaded with Eminece Wizards and Governors (if even relevant).

Is there any reason why I should refrain from this, or am I just a f***in genius?

Re: Pickup recommendation...

A C8 is hard to beat, heavy as hell; have you considered one of those? Screaming Demons have disappointed more than one player; they don't scream, some guys here call it more of a chirp.

Re: Pickup recommendation...

There is litterarily no place to buy humbucker magnets around here (all those on ebay only sold to domestic US) so I see no way of actually making a C8 (even if I would love to).

So, the Demon dissappoints eh? Is it because people expect an high output, or is it because it is just plain bad?

Re: Pickup recommendation...

It's pretty bright, output isn't that high. I think the ame gives players an entirely different perception of what it is.

PM'd you about a magnet. :14:

Re: Pickup recommendation...

The Demon is a great pup, but it is more of a PAFish tone (but warmer than a '59 or Pearly) and output (yeh, the specs say 10k but it performs more like 8-9k). It has a very balanced EQ, is very articulate, and sounds awesome in bridge or neck (I like it better in the neck).

It really is misnamed. I think people expect it to perform like a very agressive high output pup because of its name, but it doesn't. IMO this is why it disappoints some people...it just didn't fit their expectations.

But as Blue said, the C8 is a real "screamer". You probably wouldn't be disappointed in that. Either the Pearly or the Demon in the neck would be an excellent choice. The little extra output and mids in the Demon make it work very well with the C8 in the bridge.

If I had an extra A8 mag I'd send it to you, but I'm using all of mine. Maybe another forumite will take pitty and send you one.

Good idea. For what he wants, the neck slot is a great place for a Screaming Demon.

Re: Pickup recommendation...

Sounds great then, I have heard good things about the demon in necks, but I had yet to find a nice bridge pickup to couple it with:cool2:

And Blueman, I can't thank you enough man:)

Re: Pickup recommendation...

I have to say, I like the demon / pg combo. It seems they would play together nicely.

I installed a UOA5 Demon in my alder Strat last night and I'll say that it screams. I'm using a distortion pedal into a Marshall Class to get some hi gain tones out of it but for the little I got to play it today I love it. I'm betting the UOA5 has alot to do with it as I didn't try it with a standard A5. It's still on the bright side but for the guitar it's in it works perfect at the moment. To my ears it sounds just as hot and gainy as the two JBs I have with UOA5s in them but YMMV.
