Pickup Recommendation

Hey everyone. I would like some recommendations for a new bridge pickup on my Epiphone g-400 WC. The problem i am trying to solve is that its really loose and flabby on the low end, as well as it has way too much treble and notes are very harsh. It also has terrible note definition on chords. The genres i play on this guitar range from classic 70's rock, up until 90's metal. The amp i play is a Peavey Vypyr VIP 2 and i use the Marshall sim and the 6505 sim mainly. Im just very overwhelmed by the pickup options that have the description I'm looking for on the Duncan website, so i would just like some steering in the right direction. Thanks guys.

Welcome to the forum!
I would suggest a 59/Custom Hybrid, which seems to tick all of your boxes here. The low end is tight, the separation of notes is wonderful, and is great for classic rock up to 90s metal.

Re: Pickup Recommendation

I'd recommend Whole Lotta Humbucker or Slash,
or maybe even Duncan Distortion, or a Gibson 500T

Re: Pickup Recommendation

What kind of amp are you playing through? That may be a better first investment. I picked up one of the 5 watt Monoprice tube amps for around $120 shipped.

Re: Pickup Recommendation

Im playing through a Peavey Vypyr combo amp. I am going to be moving to a head and cab setup soon though. Just trying out different heads and seeing what i like as of now

Re: Pickup Recommendation

Thanks for the wiring reccomendation. I am definitely going to gut the electronics as the pots on the guitar stock aren't very articulate as do most parts on a 350 dollar guitar.

Re: Pickup Recommendation

The "Alnico Classic" pickups that come in that model aren't all that bad, but they do have a big bottom end.

I would suggest looking into the Custom range, the Slash set or swapping the bridge out for a 59/Custom hybrid like Mincer suggested.

With that said, I would almost recommend not doing anything until you upgrade your amp, as others have suggested. THAT's your weak link at the moment. :)

Re: Pickup Recommendation

I actually just picked up a mesa boogie mini recto from my moving neighbor with the 1x12 cab for 500 bucks. Crazy deal! I'll mess with this thing for a while and see if it helps the muddy low end on my bridge. Thanks for the recommendation!

Re: Pickup Recommendation

I can wholeheartedly recommend the 59/Custom Hybrid to get you all those places and more. My favorite humbucker by far. I can also recommend the Whole Lotta Humbucker set. Nails a lot of classic rock tones and is hot enough to go further.
