Pickup recommendations for an epi les paul.

as some of you may know, i recently got an epi les paul. It plays really well and sounds o.k. The neck pickup sounds really good, but the bridge pickup has no balls at all. It seems very low output, with very little midrange. im looking for a pickup with a vintage type output, with good mids and highs.

I was considering the following pickups:

Gibson Burstbucker
Gibson '57 classic
Pearly gates
JB

Which of those do you think would best suit my needs? You can also recomment others too. Thanks in advance.

Re: Pickup recommendations for an epi les paul.

For that I would think something like the 59, Pearly Gates, or other PAF based pickups. I never really cared for the Burstbuckers or 57 Classics myself. In fact the only Gibson pickups that ever really sounded good to me were the ceramics, 500t etc.

Re: Pickup recommendations for an epi les paul.

I dont have any expeirence with the burstbucker so that one i dont know. And i havent heard a PG in a Les Paul type guitar. Though I have had a 57 classic in one before and really didnt care for it for basically the same reasons your saying you dont like the one you got now. It didnt have the meat or warmth to it. A pickup I really like is the Rio Grande BBQ. The JB would work very nicely also. I think it would be a bit louder and have a touch less midrange than the BBQ. Just my 2 cents.

Re: Pickup recommendations for an epi les paul.

I have an epi w/ a Pearly Gates neck and a Custom Custom Bridge. I have to say - I don't think the PG has all that great mids. I mean, they are ok, but as per the SD tone chart, it's more of a scoop. The CC on the other hand, really punches and cuts. When I'm in the mood for some zep, that guitar into my fender pro jr. is my weapon of choice. Think about it. The PG neck/CC bridge combo is a fave of many out here in forum land.

The Pearly Gates set is fantastic in a LP. I have it in mine and it romps. :burnout:
