Pickup recommendations for bright super Strat

Re: Pickup recommendations for bright super Strat

i dunno
according to sound samples i like the patb3 in clean more than the patb2 in clean, but i like the distortion of patb2 and patb3 sounds "struggled" "choked" in distortion, what do i do :\

Sound clips are overrated. The PATB-3 will get you as close to the warmness and fatness of a LP without having a LP. It does not sound like you described to me. It did the trick for my bright and harsh Jackson SL-4 when no other pickup did the trick. The guitar has ash wings, OFR, and it is Maple neck though. From your description it sounded the way you described your strat. Trust me, PATB-3.

Re: Pickup recommendations for bright super Strat

I'm not sure what you mean by "compressed sounding" but to me the Custom Custom is impossible to beat in a bright guitar. I understand if you have tried it and were not happy, but you may reconsider trying it with different electronics to open it up a little.

I tried all of the Customs at some point. Custom, CC, C5. None of these were really helping my bright tone on this axe. They were a little too hot for my taste and compressed sounding, all in all. I think the CC was lacking a little balls and low end if I recall. I have had this guitar for around 25 years and have probably tried 15 different pickups in it. The only ones I could really deal with are the AII Pro and the VHPAF. I'll keep an eye out for a good deal on a PATB-3 and give it a whirl. I have to admit that I'm wary when people say you can get fat LP tone from a superstrat but I'll try anything. Anybody looking to unload one?
