Pickup recommendations for strat ?

This is my first post:

I am looking to replace the middle and neck pickups of my MIM strat. I currently have a JB jr bridge pickup and am happy with it. I play alternative, emo, pop-punk styles and most of the stuff i play is melodic and mellow. Any recommendations are greatly appreciated. Thanks

I would go with a pair of Duncan SSL-1's. They are very similar to vintage 50's and 60's Strat pickups and are some of my favorite Duncan pickups. You'll get the same chimey, bright tones Dire Straits, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix got from the neck and middle pickups and still have your JB JR. for ballsier soloing tones. Great combination, IMO, and I used this combo for years in my favorite MIJ Strat.

Hey tridentgum2,

First off, Welcome to the forum!!! As far as the pups, 4 out of 5 Strat players surveyed recommend Duncans for thier patients who play Strats. :laugh2: :laugh2: :laugh2: Yes, it's true, I AM always this funny. :laugh2: Anyway, tg2, I agree with Luigi on this one. I also have a set of SSL-1s in the neck/mid of one of my Strats and for the money they are excellent pups. Great vintage vibe & I think they would work very well for what you're describing. If you're willing to fork out the $$$, the next level would be Antiquity Texas Hots or Surfers, both are highly favored by many players here. But, as Lew said, the SSL-1s are hard to beat for the price. Good luck.

Peace,

Darrin

Thanks for the input. I'm probobly going to go with the SSL-1s.

They're great pups, very articulate & expressive, what you pick is what you get. If you like a sweet Strat tone & it fits in with your style, I say go for it.
IMHO, Seymour, MJ & the rest of the folks at Duncan make the best replacement Strat pups available. Humbuckers ain't to shabby either :naughty:

Peace,

Darrin
