Pickup repair help and identification

Hi guys,

I managed to win 2 pickups cheap but are not fully working, both pickups have no readings from the leads, so all measurements come from where the pickups join the lead, 1 is a SD custom and the other is a Dimarzio.

1) on 1 of the coils of the SD Custom it works and reads(7k) the other looks like it was tried to be repaired, the last owner tried connecting a cable to the coil but looks like it was disconnected, I have also found that the coil has 3 ends to the coil ?? which lead is what (1 at bottom, 2 at top comming from oposite directions), Quesion is how do you strip the coil wire, and what lead is what.

2) I was wondering if any of you could I dentify the Dimarzio it is cream with double slug poils (no screws), 1 od the coils reads 4.22k (the other is unreadable) - it is supost to be a PAF type pickup.

3) 2nd coil on the dimazrio does not read anything but a continutiy check reads fine so I am wondering what this problem may be?

4) where abouts can I buy pickup tape, pickup poles and lead (5 core) from (UK preferably).

5) Does any 1 have any tips on making a pickup look new again from the top, would lightly sanding the bobins smooth out the top from wear and dents, and how would I go about removing rust from the pole screws.

6) I think that re wiring the lead wire with 5 core leads would be good incase of coil splitting, so I would need some help figuring out what wires need to connect to each other too.

Thanks

Do you have any pictures?

On question #3, if by "continuity" you mean you're getting a "0.00" reading (not "0L") then there is a short -- the hot lead must be touching the baseplate or something to short the coil out.

I've heard that rubbing toothpaste with a soft cloth on the bobbins will shine them up but I've never tried it.

I will take some pictures.

with regards to #3 it requires some sort of rubbing down because the bubin tops are really dented and seem very warn down so its all very jagady looking. its not soo much cleaning them, I was thinking about rubbing them down with some Fine wet and try paper like 800 grit, anyone tried this?
