Pickup Review from HELL!!! EMG/SD/DMZIO

Why the hell not? I own EMG's SD's and Dimarzios. Awhile back I posted that the SD's sounded too much alike. Well, I took your advice and got a new amp and I think that was part of the problem. So I am here to repost for anyone who is considering a pickup upgrade. All of this is opinion and only opinion:

First, what kind of music do you play? Metal? Then get the EMG 81. The Dimarzio Evolution, Super Distortion, and the SD Distortion, don't even come close to the pure, palm meading soloing fingertapping ability that the EMG boasts. Wah wah wah...that's cheating. You should be able to play fast without the pickup's help! Whatever. The EMG is hand's down the best metal pickup. If you shred, and you want just harmonics, sensitivity and output, then get this baby.

Overall I prefer the Seymour Duncan's. They sound warmer and more organic. I could go into harmonics and output and all that other bull****, but that really is the bottom line. The SD's sound warmer. More "vintage" sounding. I have a Jazz Neck, a Lil 59 and a Distortion. The distortion and the 59 sound very similar, with the lil 59 cutting off some trebles and with a little less output. The 59 and the distortion can't hack it clean, they were made to be distorted by a good tube amp. The Jazz is simply the best pickup ever invented. Clean or distorted it sounds warm, clear punchy and LIVELY. Organic. Just awesome and amazing. The best of them all I think.

The Dimarzios, I have a Humbucker from Hell, Virtual 2, and a Evolution. They sound great clean. Much brighter overall than the SD's, they sound like Fender pickups to be honest. Awesome when played clean. But a bit brittle when the distortion is cranked, and the glassy highs turn into mild shreiking when the distortion is on. I have to watch the tone knob on these guys.

I also have a new guitar with a PAF Pro and a Super distortion. The PAF pro rocks, full sounding, and the Super Distortion flat out sucks. It's tinny and weak. But I haven't played this guitar enough to really judge it.

Anyways hope this helps someone. the Dimarzios were really disappointing, I was hoping for some real metal harmonic tones from the Evolution and it was kind of boring. The Duncan Distortion beats it hands down. Way more bite and growl.

Thanks for reading my rant!
