Pickup set for Ibanez S5570 - DT/Petrucci tone

Hi all,

I have just bought an Ibby S5570Q-RBS. The guitar is amazing and the tone is beautiful !
The bridge pickup is really nice for soloing, but it seems to me that it gets muddy for riffing under heavy distortion. I would play mainly DT/Petrucci stuff with this axe, so I would need a pickup that is tight, aggressive and clear for rhythm parts but that cuts also for solos.
I love the Distortion, but I am not sure if it would fit for this guitar. I also know that S guitars are picky for pickup replacement, due to the size of the humbuckers slots and for wiring (e.g. the single coil seems to be not RW, so replacing the bridge pickup would probably require the replacement of the single coil as well).

Any hints/suggestions for the pickups?

In mahogany? The Illuminator set is probably a better choice. For the middle I'd go with an HS3 permanently split with the top coil active.

If you're truly after Petrucci tones, I'd go with a 5-way Super Switch.

1: Bridge Series
2: Bridge Split + Middle
3: Bridge + Neck (Inner Coils)
4: Neck Split + Middle
5: Neck Series

Options to get Bridge (Series) + Neck (Series), as well as Neck (Parallel) could be cool too!


EDIT: In addition to the 5WSS, if you add a push-pull to sub the inner neck coil for the middle single you can do this:

1: Bridge Series
2a: Bridge Inner + Middle
2b: Bridge Inner + Neck Inner
3: Bridge Series + Neck Series
4a: Neck Outer + Middle
4b: Neck Parallel
5: Neck Series
