Pickup set?

Re: Pickup set?

I have that very set in A dean Cadillac. Just put the guitar down at this moment in fact. I like it a lot.

The custom has a lot of bottom thunk, and a nice cuting high end, not too much mids - but enough that they aren't lost in the bass and treble. The PG is just an awesome all around classic PAF style for any mahogany body/maple top 24 3/4 scale guitar IMO.

But that's just me. I never play the pups together. It's lead on the neck, andf lead/rhythm on the bridge for me.

Re: Pickup set?

I did read the post about giving your guitar, amp, music likes and dislikes etc, etc, and thought that asking about 2 specific pickups would be adequate input. They will be put in a Epi LP. And I hope for a ZZTOP type sound with a more modern versatility for sizzle.
I very much appreciate your expertise.
Dean's Cadillac is a nice guitar. I recently played a Dean Premium with the 2 pearly gates pups. Very nice guitar. I want a sound similar to that but thought maybe 2 pearly gates wouldn't be as versatile as a set with another pup. But I don't know much.

Re: Pickup set?

well. the pearly was designed with Billy Gibbons in mind.. (or for him) I dont wanna mistate fact. So that will get you there fo sho. The custom in the bridge will def give you some added attitude.. great combo

Re: Pickup set?

You can versatile from the pups, or from the amp, or fx, or all three.

I think that a PG set is a pretty versatile set of pickups - as are any basic PAF - 59s, A2Ps, or PG's. They just provide a solid sound. The only thing they don't do is push a mega-load into an amps pre-amp to overdrive it. But these days, between all the stomp box flaovors and mega-gain built into most amps, I don't see that as a problem or a need. In fact, I think they sound better with low output pups.

But - depending on the Epiphone...and all of those are certainly NOT created equal, you should definitely get into the ZZ Top ballpark. LP+PG+Bixonic fuzz box = Billy G. (tallent/mojo not included!)
