Pickup shielding??

Hi,

I'm just looking for opinions on various ways to sheild a pickup. The most common way I see is to have a metal baseplate that is connected to the shield of the cable. However, I have a Peavey pickup that has a plastic base plate, but a copper tape that goes around the sides of the coils.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of each?

thanks,

Al

when i have a noisy guitar i shield the whole cavity with copper foil so individual pup shielding isnt a big concern.

the peavey method is more modern and less expensive, is that copper grounded?

Yep, the shield from the cable is soldered to the copper wrapping. They are in a Peavey from the mid 80s. They are alnico and 14K. The bridge has a nice vocal wuality that I really like.
