Pickup suggestion, please...

Hey there!

I'm rebuilding an 89 Yamaha RGX612S.
It's a wonderful super-strat from back in the hey days of shred.

Alder body, bolt-on maple neck, rosewood board, 24,75" scale, Yamaha RM-Pro trem (which reminds me a lot of Ibanez's ZR).
However, it's going to be tuned down to C (standard C, not Drop-C) with .013 gauge strings.

That being, I'm not really sure on which pickup I should install on the bridge position.
I am leaning towards DiMarzio Evo 2, that I have on an RG470 and I love... but being a shorter scale and a deeper tuning, I'm not quite sure about where to get things going.

I really need some practical advice (not catalog reading please - e.g., Petrucci uses *** pickup; DiMarzio says *** pickup is good).

Let me know what you are using on your 6-string ERGs!

Cheers...

Re: Pickup suggestion, please...

Evo 2 works just fine for lower tunings. I've got it in a guitar that alternates between open C and open B with 52-12s.

Re: Pickup suggestion, please...

I figured so, because there's plenty of hi-mids in that pickup! :)
I've been reccomended the D-Sonic too. Any ideas on this one?

And how about a SD pickup?

Re: Pickup suggestion, please...

D-Sonic works in the same tunings, sounds even heavier than the Evo 2.

I played DSonic7 on an custom UV with lower tuning and it was quite fine. Moreover it reminds me JB somehow. So i might give a try to use JB for bridge position with its hi-mids.

Re: Pickup suggestion, please...

I have a JB with that tuning and I'm not really fond of it... I feel it "lacks" something when I go below D.
I am, however, completely obsessed with it in standard tunings! :)

Re: Pickup suggestion, please...

Got it. Actually i have a 7 string with DiMarzio Blaze Custom in its bridge position and im pretty happy with it. Is there its 6 string version, if there is you may give a try?

Re: Pickup suggestion, please...

I got an ESP 7-string with a DiMarzio JPM7 bridge (DiMarzio says in their website that this is very close to the Blaze bridge) and I don't quite like it. No mids...

Anyway, we're talking 6-string here...

It should be Steve's Special model and yes you are right, it is mid scooped humbucker. But Blaze Custom is different. It has more mids and higher output than S.Special.
