Pickup suggestions for Ibanez S2075FW

Re: Pickup suggestions for Ibanez S2075FW

those dimarzio IBZ's arnt real dimarzio's.there made only for ibanez. ibanez used to use dimarzio PAF's in the better guitars(like yours) but theyve been cutting corners on things.they dont use locking studs for there edge trem guitars.they just press the studs into the wood:ugh1: but your guitar has that sweet ZR trem with a tremsetter like device.:beerchug:

I agree, the dimarzio IBZ pups aren't the real deal. Any of the "real" Dimarzios that have been suggested would be a massive improvement for you!

So, did we decide that the DiMarzio Air Zone is the way to go?

DiMarzio has a 30 day exchange policy buy it, if you don't like it, swap it for something else. That's what we do with Duncan pups (except that Duncans have only a 21 day exchange policy)

That's all well and good, but I don't think I'll be putting the pickup in. I'm sure I'm capable, but I get frustrated easily. I'll probably pay someone to do it. If I mess up, it will cost me a lot more money.

I personally would put a pair of PAFs in that guitar. I have a Virtual Vintage PAF and a Virtual Vintage Hot PAF in my Wolfgang Special and love them. My wolfie was bright and this combo opened that guitar up and tamed the brightness big time. It will also give you versitility to cover almost any style of music.

other possiblities are:
Air Norton/AirZone
Air Norton/ToneZone
PAF/AirZone
PAF Pros (neck and bridge)

Those would be my recommended DiMarzio pup combos.

Thanks for the help. I'm still really undecisive. I'd like to try the DiMarzio Air Zone for starters. Maybe I'll change the other pickups over time.

You would be smart to listen to Walt. He is most wise.

Besides the Virtual Vintage, which are pretty neat, the AN/AZ combo he listed, plus any of the single coils he mentioned, would most likely make you very very happy, for Dimarzios.

For Seymour Duncan, a Custom and a 59 neck, plus a Duckbucker in the middle, would also bring a big smile.

Rock on.

Air Zone for the bridge, Virtual 2.2 for the middle and Air Norton for the neck?

Absolutely, my friend. I think you will love that combo.

If you don't, blame Walt.

Re: Pickup suggestions for Ibanez S2075FW

I was lookin' into the Air Zone and Tone Zone a little deeper and I noticed that one pickup has more DC Resistance than the other. Can you explain to me what that is and why it makes a difference?

Also, what's your take on the SH-5? It seems to be more balanced than the DiMarzio pickups, but the treble is really high. The AZ and TZ both have a lot of bass and mid, but not treble. I question if that will make it sound muddy. Even on a bright guitar.

Re: Pickup suggestions for Ibanez S2075FW

The Air Zone is the "Air" version of the ToneZone. What that means is that there is a small plastic spacer betweent the magnet and the pole pieces to make the A5 magnet sound like an aged A5 or even an A2 magnet which gives the instrument a vintage type of tone.

With any pickup that has a lot of high end, in your guitar, I will promise that if you did it, you will have every cat, dog, squirrel, skunk singing along with you when you play (which isn't bad if you are in need of a front person for your band).:laugh2: :laugh2:

As far as what pickups to put in your guitar, you are going to have to do that yourself and take advantage of the exchange policy if you are not happy.
