Pickup Suggestions

im just wondering what some of the crazy fukkers are thinking up out there.

i have two ideas.
1) an invader single coil
2) a quarter pound humbucker

not too technical but a start.

Re: Pickup Suggestions

im just saying if you have any crazy ideas for a pickup that sd or somebody could develop, put it here. i know a few degrees above jack about this kind of stuff so dont worry about me stealing your ideas.

the invader single coil is half of an ivader humbucker. simple. same magnet, poles, etc.
the quarter pound humbucker is one with the huge pole pieces from the quarter pound single coils. again, same magnet and everything.

Re: Pickup Suggestions

I can tell you that the QP humbucker idea probably wouldn't be that great. We discussed this once before in another thread. I have a matched pair of tapped QP's in a guitar, one being RW/RP. I have a push/pull pot wired so that I can connect them in series - like a big humbucker. The sound isn't very useful. So much so, I'm going to remove that wiring, as soon as I get a chance.

Now, the "tapped" setting, in series is good. But then, you just have essentially, a Stag Mag.
And they already make those. ;)

Edit: A tapped QP, in series, is about 14k - close to a Stag Mag.
An untapped QP, in series, is about 29k. :32:

I dont think the Invader would work well as a single... Especially if you just took the exact same mag/coils/polepieces... I've split an Invader before and it wasnt a terribly useful sound... It was missing everything that made a good single coil sound and had little of the good qualities of the Invader... you might be able to design something that looked like an Invader single and had a useful tone... something like a Dimarzio SDS-1

Re: Pickup Suggestions

id like a jbjr and another mini humbucker put into a standard full size humbucker case, then you could have 2 bridge humbucker sounds and a lot of different wiring selections.

Thats a pretty cool idea i think... It would be basically Seymours version of the Dimarzio Multi-Bucker

I was thinking abt this 3 to 4 yrs back. I was thinking abt the liljb and the lil 59. Yes the idea did spring up after I seen the dimarzio multibuker.
I dont know though how it wld sound.
The reason I thought abt the same was cause I wanted a vintage 59 sound and at the same time a tone like the Jb at times.
