Pickup Winding

greco

New member
I would like to learn more about pickup winding and possibly try it in the future.

I found an interesting tutorial from Australia on the internet
but haven't found much more so far.

Any suggestions as to what is recommended to read, choice of basic equipment and where to buy (or how to build a winder) at a reasonable price.

Things to avoid and/or things that are essential?

Generally ....any comments from your experiences.

Thanks

Dave

Re: Pickup Winding

As odd as it may seem, do a search for the member Walters. A lot of cr@p there, but a lot of good stuff. Don't know if some of the better posts were deleted when one of the members deleted his account.

Also try to find the pick up winders thread. It was by the same person so if you can't pm me and I'll send you the pages I saved. I wouldn't mind getting the austrailian link you found.

Look up the mimf and the ampage forum, those might help you too.

Re: Pickup Winding

Thanks LSP

I've been reading the most recent Walters posting about "bell tones" and the references to winding got me interested.

I'll get the Australian link to you and will keep looking for more.

Re: Pickup Winding

LSP: the Australian website is "designed2wind"

:duh: I also just remembered that Les Schatten of "Schatten Designs" (makes pickups mainly for acoustic instruments and other devices...he advertises in the StewMac catalog) is only a few blocks away from me.

His winders are expensive (from StewMac), and he is usually a busy guy as he does luthier work also, but I might be able to get some help from him (or from his employee, Mike, who taught me how to wire my 335 copy)

Zhangliqun: Thanks for the offer. I need to read the Australian site in detail first and then I'll PM you if I have questions. How to maintan tension and the amout of tension needed comes to mind as a starter. I would imagine that this just comes from experience.
