Pickup Wiring Help!!!!

I just put together a pickguard for my backup guitar. Unfortunately I completely forgot what I was doing when I went ahead to put it back together :/

I've listed two pics below. There are two wires coming from input jack, one ground from the bridge and a screw in the pickup routing that (I took it off) had a black wire going to it.

All of the wires loose come from the volume Pot. A red wire from the middle terminal (not sure about the formal term) and two black wires brancing off from a goop of solder on the back of the volume pot. I'm sure that this is ridiculously easy.

Shed some wisdom :)

Re: Pickup Wiring Help!!!!

The black conductors linking the jack socket, vibrato sping claw and the star washer lug are all grounds. The screw goes through the star washer into the graphite screening paint in the pickup/contol rout. One exposed end of the black wires goes to the chassis of the volume pot.

On a conventional American Standard Stratocaster circuit, the white output conductor goes to the middle lug on the volume pot.

I'm not sure what those red wires are doing in your guitar.

Re: Pickup Wiring Help!!!!

If all you've got are the black wires from the back of the pot and the red wire from the center lug, the red should be hot and goes to the jack.

Re: Pickup Wiring Help!!!!

DrN, the thin white wire in the upper photograph is the hot connection to the output jack socket.

The thicker red and black cables in the second photograph do not look like original Fender cable. I presume that they are from whatever pickups the OP has fitted on the new scratchplate/electronics assembly. Only a photograph of the entire scratchplate will resolve this confusion.

Re: Pickup Wiring Help!!!!

Thanks for the info. Would it be possible to knock it down into lamens terms?

Not a piece of the wiring, Pots, etc. is stock to the Fender. This is a loaded SSH Pickguard. I needed something fast and easy to install in the meantime. Also, wanted to see what a Humbucker would sound like in the bridge.

I've attached a pic of the whole setup.

Again, the Red wire comes off of the middle (something or the other on the volume pot). The other two black wires are soldered to the back casing.

There are two wires on the guitar that come from the input jack. A bridge ground (I imagine) and there was a black wire that ran from the screw located on the center of the pickup route (Screwed into the guitar) that ran somewhere. I'm not sure if that's used for this application.

To make it easy on me, lets follow this format.

Red Wire Connects to -

#1 Black Wire Soldered to the back of the Volume Pot Connects to -

#2 Black Wire Soldered to the back of the Volume Pot Connects to -

Black Input Jack Wire Connects to -

White Input Jack Wire Connects to -

Bridge Ground Wire Connects to -

(If used) Ringed wire located at center of pickup cavity connects to -
