Pickups by Duncan called ZEBRA?

Hey,

i'm Dennis from Germany and a friend of mine has 2 Seymour Duncan pickups in his les paul. I puit them out but nothing stand on the bottom of them. He told that this is a limited edition called "zebra". I didn't find anything about that...
They sound quite Vintage but fat! Not that similar to my APH-2 or PAF's. Is there another way to find out which pickup it is or is there really a limited run of pu's called zebra? :-D

Hi Dennis, welcome to the forum.

Zebra is a reference to a color combination of bobbins on a humbucker, not a specific model of pickup.

For example a humbucker could have one white(or cream) bobbin and one black bobbin, and that would be a "Zebra" color look.

That look is not confined to any one model, you can order that color combination on most models, with a few exceptions.

i wouldn't say that zebra pickups are limited edition, but one may think they are because of the fact that they aren't nearly as common as black bobbin pickups.

Take a DC reading with a multimeter. That would help to narrow it down...

Dennis, mach am besten Fotos jeweils von der Unterseite und von der Farbe des Wicklungsdrahtes, den man durch die Löcher auf der Oberseite sieht. Dies und die Widerstandsmessung wird reichen!

The spec sheet for the Jackson SLS3 says "Seymour Duncan zebra pickups". No model name or anything.

Turns out, they're 59s.

That's probably what your friend's pickups are.

That's probably what your friend's pickups are.

Well off the top of my head I can't think of any Les Paul besides the Slash model that comes with Duncans...

We need to get DC readings on those suckers to find out what they are.

finally i checked the DC and this is what i can tell you:

Unknown "Zebra": 8,3

I compared it to a pearly gates that i own and the DC of the PG is 8,05...Different to what the tone chart says!!

Did they build the 59 with 4 conductor cable sometime? Because this zebra pickup has a 4 cond.! Weird!

You got 8.3 from *both* pickups?
And pictures of the baseplates would help a lot.

You can get the 59 wired with 4-conductor, but it's a custom order.
Most everything else, except the Seth and Ants, comes 4-conductor standard.

If it doesn't sound like your APH/PAFs, assuming you compared them all using the same guitar, then I'm thinking it's a custom shop 59 set.
With an outside shot being a 4-conductor Seth Lover or Antiquity set.

No, i only got it from the zebra pu!
The Pearly Gates was 8,05 which is weird because the pearly gates should have more than the aph or 59...

They can't be seth's or antiqiues because i think this on is wax potted...at least it don't give feedback at high volumes and with a tubescreamer in front of the amp (jcm 800 2203 Master on 6, Preamp 11).
My - not wax potted - PAF replica screams immediately at high volumes...
