Pickups for a Carvin DC135

Re: Pickups for a Carvin DC135

After trying the guitar using different rig configs, I am warming to its sound, and I'm having some doubts about whether I should replace the pickups. The main reason why I wanted to do it, was because I wanted a proper 'superstrat' with twin humbuckers, whammy, and a playable neck with nice big frets. But I'm honestly not sure if this is the guitar I wanna alter to get that instrument. I kinda see the value of having a guitar that is specifically made for that purpose, preferably 22-fret neck, with more Strat-like materials.

I'll look into that one, thanks. Also seen the Little '59 mentioned as a good neck pickup if you like that PAF-ish sound.

Hei!

Hi!
That Guitar looks just like my Carvin DC135 in mahogany that got stolen in 1999 in BERGEN. Can you please contact me by phone or email? Will buy the guitar back if it turns out to be mine.

Re: Pickups for a Carvin DC135

Thanks for the replies. I haven't picked it up yet, found it online yesterday and thought $235 seemed like a good price despite some issues (broken neck that's been repaired, backplate replaced, one locking screw missing from a Sperzel tuner). The guy selling it plays bass, and admits that he doesn't really know much about the guitar besides what he wrote in the ad. I asked about playability and sound, and he says there should be no issues there. He already had several bidders, but since he was hesitant to ship it, I got a chance to try it out today and decide. I realized I might be pushing my luck by not just buying the thing, since I'm sure I could easily sell it if it turns out to be a dud, maybe even with a small profit. I mean, it should play at least okay, and if properly set up, who knows.

Regarding the wood, I am honestly in the dark here. Know very little about how to recognize tonewoods, apart from the very basic stuff. I did download this other photo of the body, before the seller took the ad down, dunno if this says more about the type of wood.

That's mahogany. Have owned more Carvin guitars over the years than i can count know them well. Own a solid KOA 93 DC 127 now in Tung oil and that grain is defiantly mahogany. Singles are the old single rail Carvins and are nasty harsh!! I REALLY like the newer AP 11's which are pretty nice and will drop right in that guitar. That bridge humbucker is a M22 T or SD when I find is pretty sterile and lackluster. Have a Perpetual Burn in my Kiesel DC 137 with a pair of AP 11's and that set up really works well. I have a ALT 8 in my KOA DC 127 and a Hybrid in my mahogany neck and body DC 400 and AE 185 also great combos.
This is my KOA DC 127 grain pattern is much different.

This is my 2017 Kiesel DC 135 with the AP 11's and a Perpetual burn in the bridge through my Carvin X 50 head clean running only a Boss CS 3 compressor. The AP 11's are REALLY nice in these guitars!
