Pickups for a Gibson The Paul

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
This is a 1979 Gibson The Paul

-Walnut Body
-Walnut Neck
-Ebony Fingerboard

Tonally, my best description/feeling is that it is not Maple bright, but mores than Mahogany. Definitely punchy and tighter bass-wise.

Interested in something besides the T-Tops. Because I'm just not about T-Tops. Had the guitar over a year.

Something for a nice general all around guitar. Not a metal beast or anything like that, but doesn't need to be a vintage tone either.

Will accept DiMarzio recs, or other.

Dimarzio AT-1 or Air Zone bridge
36th Ann. or Transition neck
maybe I'd also consider a Fortitude bridge with the same neck choices.

Suhr Aldrich! I love mine on my Tribute!

Otherwise, I agree with the suggestion above. I love the AT-1 too. Kinda like a lower output, tighter, clearer JB with a more open, more refined high-end.

I'm not really a T-top fan, though I did keep one in neck position for many years.
But back in the day, The Paul was the only model that actually made T-tops sound pretty big.

I bet it'd do well with a Super D at the bridge, keeping things sorta-vintage.
IMO a TZ might be too dark in walnut. AT- might work tho. Or a Perpetual Burn.

Actually that set is best in something like an alder super strat. Walnut is pretty bright, though, right?

I can't say that I have ever listened to three Walnut guitars side by side, and not next to mahogany or maple to really zone in.

Like I said - I think the best description is brighter than Mahogany, but not like Maple. So, somewhere in the middle. But I wouldn't;t say "OMG - so bright!"

Definitely not this guitar. If anything, that's the T-Tops in it. So imagine a bright-ish guitar with a Jazz set.
