Pickups for a maple neck strat. Fusion of genres.

Hi, I have a maple neck strat that I'm thinking of modifying. My interests are kinda varied and my playing style is a mix of math rock, indie, finger style, rock, jazz, progressive, punk, among others. I play both clean and with effects like overdrive, chorus, reverb, etc. I was thinking of having cool rails on the neck, either vintage rails or stock pickups on the middle, and either a 59/custom hybrid or just a 59 on the bridge. Does this sound good, or does anyone have any other suggestions for me? Thank you! :)

Either of those should work fine, I'd probably go for the '59/Custom Hybrid, it's hot but cleans up well, and has smooth but present highs. Great for gamut of clean to heavy distortion.

Might also consider the PATB-3 Blues Saraceno, it's sort of like a hotter '59, but keeps the highs, unlike most overwound pickups. Very dynamic, with improved sustain and reduced string pull. The entire Parallel Axis line is criminally underrated.

But even the '59 is fine, though you'll be more reliant on a hotter amp and/or boost to make it work for high gain than with the other options.

The Pegasus might be another to look into as well. The perpetual burn too.

This sounds like the combination I have. A Cool Rails/Vintage Rails/Hybrid is a great combination. You can get all sorts of tones out of that.

My hss strat has a cool rail neck, cruiser center and jb bridge.

Cool rail is rather hot so I spin it off for more classic strat and flip on full for leads.

Cruiser is a great 4 position split but any weak pup can do the center so maybe stick with original to start.

Jb is superb split for 2nd position and great crunch but its useless for clean. So 59 might be better as a traditional paf.
