Hi,

I have a Epiphone sheraton since 1990, and i love it.. but pots, and pickups are in bad conditions...

I will change original pots, input jack, etc... for a "cts" pots, switchcraft switch etc.....

I like rock n'roll (black crowes, the cult, buckcherry, etc....)

What pickups recommend to install??

jazz/jb set ??

thanks

Re: pickups for a sheraton

I'm a blues/classic rock player with a Sheraton, and its my best-sounding, and favorite guitar. I have a C5 in the bridge, with 250K pots, and a '59N in the neck with 500K pots. The neck is bright enough to be very useable for both chords & solos, and the bridge is rich & full, with raw power & bite for solos. With the bridge warmed, both PU's sound great with one amp EQ setting (PU's are not total opposites - like the infamous 490R/498T set).

I've tried the JB in 335's, LP's, & SG's, & to me its awful in all of them (pulled & sold them!). Too bright & harsh ( a forum member said it sounds like a "dentist drill"). Even Seymour says it sounds better with an A2 magnet. The JB/Jazz pair is highly overrated, and many guys pull them, mainly due to the JB's unpleasant icepick tones. The Jazz makes a good neck PU though.

If you like 335's, you're probably not going to like ceramic magnets (Custom, DD, etc), as the tone is bright & sterile; the opposite of where you're headed with a semi-hollow body.

The C5/'59N is GREAT for rock: hard, classic, & otherwise. All the power you'd ever need. The C5 pushes the bridge into overdrive easily for sustain & distortion, & its not as colorless as a ceramic. Lots of bite to cut through. What more do you need?

Re: pickups for a sheraton

ok, fantastic ... rock and roooolllllllllll!!!! :headbang:

the last question:

I need another pickup covers?? or the originals sheraton are ok??

thanks

Re: pickups for a sheraton

I'd suggest the C-5/59 or C-5/PG. If you want A2, get a Seth Lover set.

My new Gibson ES-335 came with 57 Classics, and I honestly like them enough to NOT swap them out. The Gibson 57 Classics are very fine pickups in a 335 or Sheraton!

Gibson and Duncan have different pole spacing, so the covers ARE NOT interchangeable.
I'm not sure about Epiphone, but I'd assume they aren't compatible with Duncan either.

The best idea is to pay the extra money per pickup and order them from a dealer in gold covered. That way, you're getting factory potting with no microphonic issues.
