Pickups for Epiphone Dot?

Hey,
Does anyone know what pickups would suit an Epiphone Dot for a solid
rock n roll punk sound, such as the Dropkick Murphys and Rancid.
Would the JB and Jazz combination work good. I'm just a bit unsure because of the hollow body.

Any comments would help,

Cheers.

Re: Pickups for Epiphone Dot?

not too sure about the jb in the hollow body but im a punk music fan so im famialir with the sounds enough. I do know that tom delonge used an invader in his gibson es 335 ( not his signature model but a regular red one) in the bridge. IM not too sure what tim uses in his hollow bodies from rancid but im guesing it could be stock. I kow TIM from sugarcult uses the JB/59 combo but i dont know if he uses that in his hollow body. Perhaps its just stock. Perhaps a 59/59 combo culd get your tone? im not sure about high output pickups in a hollow body ive heard they tend to feedback alot. Tahts about as much as i know, i dont use hollowbodies so i wouldnt know alot. IM sure alot fo ppl here could help you out alot more.

BTW OUT CAME THE WOLVES is a a SOLID ALBUM!!!!!!! ROOTS OF THE RADICALS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Pickups for Epiphone Dot?

For your style I'd go with a pair of 59's for the tone of a stock 60's ES 335. If your musical tastes evolve, that set will let you play anything you want from punk to jazz. For for a clearer tone from the neck a Jazz and for a much higher output soloing tone the JB in the bridge would be excellant too and cover a lot of ground. Lew

Thanks! Tastes do evolve...who'd have imagined Elvis Costello writing and recording with Burt Bacharach 20 years ago?!? Lew

Re: Pickups for Epiphone Dot?

Seths would do a nice job.

I have them in my 335 copy and don't have any probs with feedback.

I think a set of Seths would cost about as much as the DOT itself...

A set of Seths would be about $200...and make that ax sound like a million bucks! Lew

Well said Lew!! The Seths in my 335 make it sound a million dollars and IMHO as good if not better than a Gibson. They were the best $200 I've ever spent and much cheaper than a Gibson 335

Re: Pickups for Epiphone Dot?

Hmm, I stand corrected...maybe I'll get some Seths when I push for that Washburn ES-copy at Guitar Center that's only $150 :D

lol!

man this sucks.... i have to be the only one in this forum without a local "Guitar Center". my friend Sqeak's dad lives in ohio and every time he goes there he talks about how much guitar center kicks the S#%T out of our local music stores. :yell: :offtopic:

Re: Pickups for Epiphone Dot?

I've got a JB bridge in my Epiphone Casino hollow body and it sounds really warm and full. Great note distinction also with minimal feedback, actually not much more than my Gibson Les Paul with a JB to be honest. I guess because of the hollow body, it has great bottom end which some say is not there in a solid body with this pickup. Got the 59 in an Epi Les Paul and it is a cleaner, though still brutal and harmonic distortion when lots of gain added.

Granted I play mostly older rock and metal but I love lots of distortion at times also. Hope I helped a little. :smoker:
