Pickups for Epiphone Sg deluxe with tremolo arm?

My buddy wants to replace the stock pickups on his Epiphone SG deluxe tremolo. He plays mostly classic rock (Zeppelin ect) He only has a 15w solid state line 6 amp. The distortion on it obviously sounds harsh. What would you recommend for a good set of pickups for that guitar to maybe lessen the harshness of the cheap distortions and warm it up a bit?

A C5 (SH-14) with either an A8 or UOA5 mag in it. Warmth, mids, and some bite.

Custom 5 sounds absolutely righteous in an SG. 59 neck too.

Will he notice the difference with a cheap amp? I mean will it be like putting a Ferrari shifter knob on a Chevette?

No, more like a K&N filter in a base model Cavalier.

All kidding aside, you can't got wrong with most of the A5 offerings.

Yeah, a lot of people complain about the scoop of a Custom 5, since that wind seems to accentuate it more than the '59... but if you have a powered EQ of some kind, just give it a "frown curve", accentuating and boosting the mids and you'll cut just fine.

The thinner mahogany body of an SG has that mid-thing going on, so a slightly scooped feel in a pickup is a nice balance.

He didn't end up getting anything but wants to now. Does he need a trembucker for the bridge since its a tremelo and what do you mean by "unorientated" custom 5?
