Pickups for MIJ Epiphone Riviera

I've been following the thread "Picks for Sheraton II" I was originally thinking of SH-11 (Custom Custom) for the Bridge and SH-2 (Jazz) for the neck on my semi-hollow bodied MIJ Riviera. However, I've noticed that others recommended some combinations of Vintage Humbukcers ('59's, Seth's, Alnico II's, Pearly Gates) are better this type of guitar.

I play (or should I say relearning after quitting for over 20 years) electic blues - think Bluesbreakers meets BB Kng meets Albert King. I also like jazzy blues rythmns too.

Recommendations? Thanks.

Pretty guitar. Use to have a black one made the mistake of selling it!

I'm a seths fan as I like that classic sound

Re: Pickups for MIJ Epiphone Riviera

The Custom Custom is a great choice and it's what I use in my own semi hollowbody. But I'd go for another alnico 2 pickup for the neck position. Either an Alnico 2 Pro or Pearly Gates.

The alnico 5 Jazz is a wonderful pickup but IMO it works best with another alnico 5 pickup (59B, JB, etc.) or a ceramic mag pickup (Duncan Custom, Distortion, etc.) because that way the bridge pickup will have similar bass output to the Jazz and it's easier to dial in one tone on the amp that works well with both pickups.

Personally, I would have thought seths or 59s were better for bluesy stuff, rather than hotter pups like the custom custom.... meh, what do I know. I just have a 59 in mine and it's sweet :D

Re: Pickups for MIJ Epiphone Riviera

I just re-installed the Seth's in my sheraton.

WOW! :)

I can't beleive I ever pulled those out of there. Don't get me wrong, the Phat Cats I had in there after the Seths were a blast to play with, but this particular guitar really likes the Seths. :burnout:

Re: Pickups for MIJ Epiphone Riviera

hey benj, wanna stick up some clips? I quite fancy hearing seths in a semi, as opposed to 59s...

Re: Pickups for MIJ Epiphone Riviera

I would love to post clips, but I don't know how. I'm really, really computer illiterate. I barely know how to turn one on.

Re: Pickups for MIJ Epiphone Riviera

I was thinking about Phat Cats too. A lot of positive reviews. I guess it's a matter of personal taste. '59s. Seths, Phats,........

It was long ago but I remembert the sweet sound from P_90s on a 56 Gibson Gold Top. Nice.

If you do get a pair of the Bluesbuckers, let us know how they sound. I've been interested in hearing about them for a while now.
