Well, the Jazz has a lot of treble, and not many mids and maybe just slightly more bass. Although the PG is an A2 pickup, it doesn't really sound like a typical A2 pickup- it just sounds like a PAF with more highs.
Hi guys, I was still thinking about the mid range frequencies. Are you sure that the Jazz doesn't sound too scooped?
Could the Pearly Gates solve this problem and at the same time not sound too dark and muddy, althought it's an A2?
No humbucker is going to sound scooped to the point of being problem in a 22 fret, mahogany guitar, but if you want something particularly vocal sounding you could get an APH. IMO the Jazz sounds *really* good in mahogany imo, you won't be lacking in mids at all.
I do think the Pearly Gates will give you a bit more defined mids but I think the low end of the Jazz is tighter and more pleasing to my ears. The Sentient is also a great neck pickup that I think could be a good alternative if you decide against the Jazz. But I've used the Jazz/Distortion pickups together before and it's a winning combo for sure.
