Pickups for semi hollow

Hi guys. My friend is getting a Ibanez am73b semi hollow and i want to put new pups in it for him. My plan so far is pg1B and a2pN he plays classic rock and country with a blackstar ht20 into a marshall cab. Would this combo be good?

pg neck is one of the best pups out there. If you are going for a pgb, might as well get the pgn.

Re: Pickups for semi hollow

I'd go with an APH1 set with the neck p'up modded with an A3 mag.

That's the "Smooth Vintage Whisperer™" set for ya.

That's the perfect mag combo for an articulated-sounding, PAFish set in a semi-hollow and specially in a full-hollow.

If you don't wanna go the mag-swapping route, the arguably best Duncan p'up set for a semi-hollow is the Seth Lover set, no doubt about it.

HTH,

I realize that this this combo probably isn't anywhere near what your friend is looking for but I put a Jazz in the neck and a Gibson Dirty Fingers in the bridge of an Epiphone Dot Studio and it was great. To me the Jazz is one of the best neck pickups around (have one in a Les Paul and it is amazing). The Dirty Fingers is a super high output HB. To me it has great highs, plenty of low end without being boomy or muddy, and is a bit scooped in the mids. It can be a tough to tame but if you put a treble bleed circuit on it and use your volume control, it can cover a lot of ground. For me it was a perfect combination and I loved the tone. Ultimately sold the guitar to fund another but both of those pickups are waiting to go into another at some point.

My 335 has a stock A2P set and it sounds great. I would try that first then go for the mag swap.
