Pickups for Tele Custom

Hi All,

It been a while since I've posted here. I'm refinishing a Tele Custom that someone gave to me a while ago and have been thinking about pickup choices. I think that I'm going with the hot rails in the bridge but not sure about the neck humbucker. Anyone have the hot rails with a distortion neck pup? Alternatively I could cool it down a bit and go with something like the hot lead stack with something like an AP2 or 59. Any ideas/suggestion would be appreciated.

a distortion neck is a great pup but its pretty hot and thick. i dont know if it would be a good tonal match to the hot rails but ive never tried it so i could be totally wrong. you could try the distortion neck and if its too much change the magnet to something a little lighter

I love a 59 in a Tele neck...but then again...I love 'em everywhere a humbucker goes, so I may not be the best one to ask.

Lollar's about to come out with a version of the original wide range humbucker. Might want to consider that! As far as Duncan's, I'd go '59 or better...PGn.

Re: Pickups for Tele Custom

Fender Wide Range humbuckers (and authentic replicas) sound more like a Gibson mini humbucker than a PAF. In my teens, the lead guitarist from a rival local band used the WR HBs on his CBS-era Telecaster Deluxe to get a pretty convincing Hendrix neck PU tone.
