Well, for a while now i've been saving up to buy a custom dream machine, and I am nearly ready to spend the small fortune it requires.
I have decided to go with either Schecter Custom shop (i've seen some really nice instruments from this place) or Warmoth.
My original idea was the go with an H-S-H setup, with the Single Coil "Sitting" right on top of the bridge bucker, to get a "bridgier" tone.
In truth I rarely use the single coil, but when I do I feel it adds alot to my music. I play lead guitar for a band called Zen Vendetta, and we have sound clips on the band website (www.zenvendetta.com). Take a listen to them to get a general idea of the sound. Its sort of a hopped-up mix of classic rock, 80s Metal, and Modern Heavy Rock.
The sound clips on the site are a bit older and do not exactly represent the CURRENT sound, but you can still get a good idea from them.
The newer sound is a bit leadier, and a slight bit heavier than the First Four on the site... Well... onto my question...
I need, specifically, 3 things out of my guitar. For one, I need a solid, growling, mid-high output bridge humbucker for rythm and some lead work. tight bass, smooth mids, sparkly but not harsh on the highs. For this I am thinking seriously about the George Lynch Screamin Demon. I Have used this pickup before and love it.
Two, I need a big, fat, smooth PAF style bucker for the neck, mostly for lead work, and as such it has to be present enough to cut through (I will be boosting volume as well) The Jazz caught my eye because it is articulate, and I, personally, am not too fond of the 59. It is a bit too undefined in the neck.
Three, I need a highish output single coil sound, with alot of "pop". This is where I run into trouble. I will be using it rarely, on a few rythm and leads, but having it there just adds so much style in my opinion. I was thinking of either going with my original idea of a middle position single coil positioned as close to the bridge as possible, OR maybe a coil tap setup. Does anyone know how the George Lynch behaves under a coil tap? I need a minimal drop in volume, and a good amount of distortion to still be present, with as little noise as possible.
I currently own a C-1 Classic with JBb and 59n buckers, with coil tap. I am not too fond of the tapped sound, and use it only when absolutely necessary.
My wood choices for the guitar will most likely be Mahogany Body, Maple Neck, Rosewood fingerboard. I may also go with a floyd rose tremolo.
I am interested in opinions on ANYthing here.
Thanks Alot.
