I think you're right. I guess he didn't like the rattly stock bridges. Cobain was a bit of a tech, apparently. Who would have thought. This article says he bought the Jag already modded.

That is a great question, who modified a 1965 left handed Jaguar with dual Dimarzio’s, a TOM and kept it in an Anvil case? For how undesirable they were in the 80’s it makes sense to be a workman’s guitar, but being left handed it’s extremely unique. You’d think someone would say “oh yeah that was my guitar for band XXX”.

What's up with the bass and neck side corner of the HB bobbin? It looks reshaped, but I couldn't tell you why.
