Pickups in the Eric Johnson Strat

Anyone know how to describe the sound of the pickups that come in the Eric Johnson Strat? I'll be receiving the guitar this week as I scored a used one on Ebay and my Classic Player has Custom Shop 69's which I absolutely love.

Just wondering what the Eric Johnson pickups will sound like. I'll be using quite a bit of gain as I play mostly hard rock.

he uses them live alot now. youtube something and you can hear what it sounds like. granted it will be eric johnson who can probably make an altoids tin and stick with strings sound good

yeah, but only if it is a NOS cinnaburst tin from the original English altoids, not the domestic tins and silkwound nylon monofilamant strings on a piece of old growth hickory of between 8 and 12 oz


i have an EJ strat .. i like it alot .. the pickups are very clear and clean and 'polite' - never 'push-y', so you might need a boost (i use an sfx01) ... very well balanced across the three and very cool hum canceling in 2 and 4 ... never ice picky highs (to my ears) especially with the 2nd tone knob on the bridge pickup ... i think you will be pleased with them especially if you are wanting something different from your CS69s

Truth time...I find tham rather thin and borderline brittle...

Not sure what it is about them that bug my but I just don't care for 'em much at all.

Clean that lack punch and dirty them seem to lack punch and seem a little harsh at times...

EJ uses either a very clean tone or a really distorted tone w/o a lot of top end, for that they are great but for the way I play they were just not that great...

I've heard he can tell tif the Cinnamon in the Altoid originated in Java or Sumatra just by looking at the Altoid tin just by looking at it, and that he prefers the tone altoid tins that used to contain Cinnamon of Sri Lankan origin best.
