Pickups para mi?

I've been wanting to replace the pickups in my Ibanez S470FM for a while, but I don't really know much about this stuff. It has a mahogany body with flamed maple top, maple neck with rosewood fretboard, and a Floyd Rose. Also, I play through a Peavey Classic 50.

I play a wide variety of music. Mostly old stuff like Zeppelin, Sabbath, Queen, and Cream, but I also play a good bit of metal such as Maiden, Bodom, Metallica, and Anthrax.

I love the sound of the JB and Custom Custom for the bridge and I'm torn between the '59, Pearly Gates, and Seth Lover for the neck. I am open to suggestions if there's something that might work a little better for me. I want to know what pickup would sound good considering the wood and bridge of my guitar.

I'm sure all you guys and your extensive knowledge can help me. Also, since the sound samples on the DiMarzio website are pretty bad, if someone could recommend DiMarzios that would fit my style then that would be great.

Re: Pickups para mi?

i have an ibanez 540s with very similar wood as that in yours ... i put a 59 in the neck and a C5 in the bridge ... i always thought that the guitar was a bit too thin sounding ... i am assuming you feel similarly about yours ... i love the way it sounds now for what i play (which is some rock, but not metal)

of the ones you noted, i think the PGn might be a bit thin, especially with the floyd ... i think you'd like the 59 ... i dont know about the seth first-hand, but i wonder if you are playing with intense volume / gain if it'd give you microphonic feedback troubles ...

i'd probably agree that a JB or CC would be sweet for the bridge

good luck

Re: Pickups para mi?

Go for the CC bridge and the alnico II pro neck. They would work very well in your guitar!!!!! The aph II is very smooth and warm but, not muddy. It should work REALLY WELL!!!!!

Re: Pickups para mi?

i have an aIIp in the neck of my brian moore (all mahogany) and love it ... but it has some heft to it ... the ibanez s bodies are so thin that i thought maybe an alnico 2 magnet pickup might be a bit "under beefed" ...

Re: Pickups para mi?

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I'll check out the Alnico II Pro and compare it to the '59. I've been kind of steered away from the Custom Custom due to the extreme love for the Custom. I'm going to try to check the Custom out again too.

Maybe my amp settings will help determine which pickup is good for me:
Treble: 4
Middle: 7
Bass: 5

Another reason I'm sort of getting steered away from the CC is because the mids are very prominent and I might want something with a little less middle in case I want to have a slightly-scooped-mid metal tone.

Any more suggestions that you guys can make? Maybe suggest some DiMarzios as well if you know about them. You guys are really helpful!

Re: Pickups para mi?

The breed is fat and beefey. no doubt about that.
