Pickups similar to JB

Hi
Im looking to replace the bridge pickup in my Les Paul from the Duncan Distortion

Im looking to see what other pickups are out there with similar tones to the JB
the Dirty Fingers has been suggested , can anyone compare it to the JB.

I say the JB because I like the Upper mids for Lead on the high notes
(almost Wah like)
but the JB might not work in this guitar because its a very resonant and can be bright .

So im looking for a similar pickup with more lower mids & maybe a bit tighter

Try out the JB, Seymour Duncan has a return policy if your pickup didn't sound right. It sounds like you want something a bit more P.A.F. like than the Distortion.

Im might actually go for the JB just looking at my options.

Some Dimarzio's have similar tones like the old Double Whammy but they look crap !

I need it to look traditional because I have Gold Covers on the pickups & don't want to loose the look

Some of the Dean pickups look interesting but don't have gold covers

I have read the Norton is similar to the JB can anyone compare ?

the baker act sounds really similar to a JB, albeit a bit less harsh, but the midrange spike the jb is known for is present in the baker act.

having no gold covers is such a lame excuse man. Just go on ebay, buy for 3 dollars a cover, screw out the polepieces, dip in a little bit of molten wax of a candle, press in the pickup, screw in the polepieces, and DONE. 5 minute job.

there's no excuse for being lazy!

you have a distortion and want a JB

Seriously, before you spend any money, a JB is ten dollars and ten minutes away. Buy an Alnico 5 and an Alnico 8 magnet. Find one of the threads here about how to swap magnets, and go do it. Try the Alnico 5 first, since that's what a JB is. If you don't like it and the upper-mid spike is too much (like it was in my LP), then give the JB8 a shot. (Again, the only difference is the magnet.)

I bought a Distortion set and wasn't quite happy with it. I tried the JB, and the JB8, and the JB8 made me happy for quite a while. I was a bit scared to mess with a pickup I had just bought, but the guys here convinced me to give it a shot. I'm so glad I did. I didn't mess up the pickup, and I learned a lot in the process.

For the record, I ended up with a Custom 8 before the whole song and dance was over, but I know a lot of guys like the Distortion, the JB8, and the JB2 in a Les Paul. I think the stock JB is actually (based on a fictional straw poll) the least popular in mahogany.

And the most important thing of all. If you have any questions, just ask! I know there are lots of guys here more than willing to help you out. If you want to ignore the ideas and go swapping pickups, that's fine. You're more than welcome to do so. But I know I went through the same thing you're going through, and some very knowledgeable, friendly people helped me find out exactly what I wanted.

Where can I get Alnico 2 - 5 or 8 magnets
And Gold Screws that fit in Seymour Duncan pickups ?

$3 pickups covers where can you get them that cheap ?

I say just try the JB, I always considered my Les Paul kind of bright and avoided the JB but for the hell of it I bought the Hot Rodded humbucker set (Jazz N & JB) just recently and absolutely love it in my Les Paul. I dont find it bright or honky just a great solid tone for any style of music!

I'd recommend an A2 magnet in a JB, I had one in a maple body, maple neck strat with a Floyd and it sounded great.

i can't remember where I bought 'm. I buy them in bulk in the UK or on ebay.
